Dear Friends,
Guess who’s doing her first in-person event in years this Sunday night? Noir at the Bar is back at Shade and I have the pleasure of reading with an incredible crew that includes Alison Gaylin, Todd Robinson, Nolan Knight, Scott Adlerberg, Lee Matthew Goldberg, Dennis Tafoya, and Jen Conley. I’ve done more online events than I can count in the past three years but there’s nothing like the thrill of reading for a live audience. Come for gritty crime fiction, great company, and free books (yes, we do giveaways). We even have a cool poster:
The last time I did an in-person event was… March 2020? No, that can’t be right… [Checks calendar] Damn, that is correct. Where has the time gone? March 2020 was when the book tour for Don’t Look Down was cancelled. If you’ve never read that book, now’s your chance: both Don’t Look Down and One Small Sacrifice are on sale for $2.49 on Kindle until July 31st. Grab them while they’re hot!
In short-story news, I’m thrilled to announce that I recently sold a new one to Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, a publication that is especially close to my heart. I picked it up for the first time when I was in middle school, and it still shocks me when I see my words in its pages. My story is called “The Good Father”; I don’t have a pub date yet, so stay tuned.
In other news, I’ve been called for jury duty. In New York. In August. I’m not sure what crime I committed in a past life to arrive in this place, but it must’ve been bad. Hope your summer is going better than mine!
Thanks for reading,
Hilary
PS Did you know Reed Farrel Coleman has a new novel out? It’s called Sleepless City and it’s great (no surprise there). I also loved Megan Abbott’s Beware the Woman. What have you read and loved lately?
